(Tabor) A stout defense meets a productive offense Friday night when #10 Fremont-Mills hosts Woodbine. The Knights are 4-1 while the Tigers are 6-1.
Fremont-Mills coach Jeremy Christiansen says his team is getting back up to speed after missing weeks 4, 5, and 6. “Getting back to the games certainly helped us improve. Being off for three weeks was tough. I thought our kids played well. We are slowly progressing and getting back up to where I feel we would normally be at this time.”
They’ll oppose a high scoring Woodbine team. The Tigers scored 98 points in Week 7 and 84 points in the first round of the playoffs. “Obviously a very large challenge. They are very explosive on offense and physical at the line of scrimmage. They’ve had a great year up to this point. It’s traditional playoff football the team that is going to be physical at the point of contact will have a good shot to win the game.”
Woodbine is led by South Dakota commit Layne Pryor while Fremont-Mills counters with Nebraska commit Seth Malcom. Coach Christiansen is quick to point out the Knights have a lot of other capable players too, especially on defense. “Jake Malcom leads our team in interceptions. At linebacker Paxten Van Houten does a great job of understanding formations and tendencies of teams. Up front we have a couple young guys that are getting after it and putting pressure on quarterbacks.
With that said, anytime you have a Division I talent on an 8-Player field let alone two of them going head to head, that’s a big story line. Both have turned in incredible careers. This season Layne Pryor has 78.5 tackles, six sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 1,039 rushing yards, 581 receiving yards, and 32 offensive touchdowns. Malcom has 47.5 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 9 tackles for loss, 462 rushing yards, and six touchdowns.
