(Southwest Valley Schools) Southwest Valley Schools Superintendent Chris Fenster announced during a Facebook video message on Sunday afternoon that face coverings are recommended after public health informed him that an individual associated with the district tested positive for COVID-19.
“As this thing rears its’ ugly head, we want to make sure our students are safe,” said Fenster. “We don’t require it, but we highly recommend students wear face masks for the next two weeks. Our district has been blessed with not having a lot of cases, but if we can have them wear face coverings, that would be great.”
Fenster says the individual testing positive for COVID-19 is a staff member associated with the high school. The individual hasn’t been on campus since Wednesday. He says due to contact tracing, it’s been determined no students were within six-feet of this individual for 15 minutes or more. “The safety of our students, staff, and community is our highest priority,” said Fenster. “We urge you to closely monitor your health as well as that of your children. If you develop symptoms or your student develops symptoms, please contact your physician immediately.”
Fenster says the teachers will report to campus on Monday for professional development. He says this case is under control, and the students will be back on campus on Tuesday.
