(Red Oak) A Red Oak home received moderate smoke and water damage in a fire that broke out on Sunday morning.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at around 10:04 a.m. to the David and Betty Bass residence at 111 E. Joy Street for a fire inside the house. Firefighters arrived shortly after the call and found the blaze inside the kitchen area. Firefighters suppressed the fire while other squad members searched the home for people and animals. Firefighters rescued the owners dog-unharmed. Two civilians were treated at the scene but refused transport by ambulance.
Chief Bruce says it appears the fire originated at the over the range microwave. The home sustained fire, smoke, and water damage, and minor smoke damage to the rest of the house, but it is livable.
Fire Departments from Elliott and Stanton assisted the Red Oak Fire Department, along with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Communications, and Mid-American Utilities.
