(Red Oak) The Red Oak Fire Department was called to a house fire at 103 W Hammond Street Sunday evening.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said the first arriving engine reported heavy smoke coming from the 2nd floor that quickly changed to fire coming from the second floor west side window. An aggressive interior fire suppression operation took place and the fire was ultimately contained to the second floor west bedroom/closet area.
Chief Bruce said there was significant smoke and water damage throughout the residence and the home is considered a total loss.
One adult and four children were able to escape without injury. Red Cross was contacted and the family has been relocated within the community.
The fire remains under investigation. The Fire Department would like to extend its gratitude to the neighbors for calling 911, evacuating their properties quickly, and for assisting some of the firefighters with water bottles.
The Elliott and Stanton Fire Departments assisted at the scene along with the Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and MidAmerican Energy.
