(Audubon) It’s been more than a year and a half since Audubon began billing for ambulance services. The Department is starting to see the benefit.
Chief Tyler Thygesen reports they’ve been able to add a lot of new equipment since October, 2018. “We’ve purchased a lot of extra equipment to equip both of our ambulances the same. A lot of extra equipment that we’ve been able to serve the public with, so it’s been a pretty good benefit so far.”
The Audubon City Council at their last meeting set up a reserve fund for the ambulance billing proceeds. Thygesen says overall it was a smooth transition to initiate the billing process. “It was. It took a little bit to get things figured out between our association and the city and now all those founds go through the city. We have everything lined up with the council for years to come to hopefully make those ambulances self funding so we aren’t taking anything out of our fire account.”
The next big item they’re looking to add are battery powered cots.
