(Atlantic) Iowa high school baseball and softball teams returned to the field for competitions this past week. Atlantic Schools Superintendent Steve Barber appearing Friday morning on KS95.7’s school district update, said he is excited to see the student-athletes and fans back to the playing field. However, he urges fans to follow social distancing guidelines so the season can continue.
Barber says fans have a responsibility when they come to the games. Families can be closer than six-feet from one another, but other than that, the six-foot rule applies. As of last Friday, COVID-19 had affected five high school teams or individuals within the state of Iowa.
“We need to be cautious, follow the guidelines, and make sure everybody stays safe so we can enjoy these activities,” said Barber.
There are two different situations. One is a positive case, and the other involves an exposed individual. When there is a particular case connected with the entire team, that team shuts down for two weeks. The other case involves Individuals who are exposed. In that case, the individual player becomes ineligible for two weeks.
