(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council on Wednesday approved a contract with Midwest Medical Transport.
The current contract with Medivac Ambulance expires at the end of this month. The renewal called for progressive increases, with the first year costing $101,200 and with $114,000.
Expanding the scope of the emergency medical services was the consensus among the area’s first responders and medical professionals. Their goal is to reduce the risk of service limitations during peak demand and promote quality improvement, according to Atlantic City Administrator John Lund. He says while the County was satisfied with Medivac’s service, the City understood $92,000.00 service for a single ambulance covering a County of 12,930 people over 565 square miles wouldn’t be sufficient.
Officials received proposals from Medivac and Midwest Medical Transport and determined the best option was with Midwest Medical Transport.
The new contract falls into two agreements. The first agreement is a 28E between the City, County, and the Cass County Memorial Hospital to share in the funding for Midwest’s service equally. The City will act as the fiscal agent and collect the funding from the County and Cass County Health System. They will remit their financing and the City’s to Midwest Medical.
The ambulance services agreement is the second part of the new service; the City contracts directly to Midwest Medical under the terms of the deal. The City is liable for an annual maximum of $241,828.90 to Midwest Medical. This figure kicks in if billing fails to hit the Midwest’s anticipated numbers, which is $880,806.00. The City would experience a reduction in the amount owed if receipts from the new service exceed this figure. The baseline payment is $210,286. The City budgeted for $231,286 for the fiscal year 2021.
Lund looks forward to working with the board of supervisors, professionals at Midwest Medical, and Cass County Health System in bringing this EMS service to the community.
