(Area) Not only has Atlantic brought home back-to-back boys team trophies from the last two state meets, but the Trojans also have a lengthy list of winning events dating all the way back to the 1930’s. Atlantic has had state champions 27 times in their history. Bret Younger, Jon Pelzer, Tom Schmeling, and Jordan Mullen all have multiple individual golds to their credit. Mullen was, at one time, a state record holder in the 110 Highs which he won three times in his career. Seven of the program’s state golds have come in the last two years.
Harlan is the lone school in the area with multiple state titles as team. Clem Marsden led the Cyclones to a first place finish in 1954. The 2003 state title, led by Ken Carstens, was part of an illustrious run of supremacy in football, basketball, track, and baseball.
