(Anita) CAM has established an excellent baseball tradition over the last handful of years and the team this season may be among the most talented they’ve had.
Four really good seniors are gone to graduation with Darien Burnison, DeShawn Carr, Mitchell Williamson, and Isaac Bower, but a lot of experience is back. “Isaac was our catcher so that’s one of the main things we have to come up with is someone to take his place. We have Cade Ticknor, but he’s going to be on the mound quite a bit and we really don’t want him back there. Also coming back we have five seniors Jacob Holste, Nate Hensley, Kolby Nelson, Ben Tibken, and Mason Chester. Junior letterwinners are Connor McKee and Ethan Arp. Sophomore letterwinners are Joe Kauffman, Colby Rich, Lane Spieker, Cade Ticknor, and Ethan Follman. We’re excited.”
CAM looks to build on great seasons in football and basketball. “Winning is contagious. They are all winners and know what it takes. Regardless of what sport they are playing they are competitors and they are good athletes as well.”
Contending for a conference title and making a deep postseason run are on the goal sheet. One of the big reasons why is a deep stable of arms. Cade Ticknor had an 8-0 record with a 1.93 ERA. Lane Spieker, Jacob Holste, Kolby Nelson, Colby Rich, and Joe Kauffman are all back after throwing at least 11 varsity innings last year.
As far as offense goes, there aren’t many easy outs in the lineup. Lane Spieker hit .422 as a freshman with four home runs and 22 RBI. Colby Rich carried a .341 average with one home run and 28 runs driven in. Kolby Nelson carried a .345 average and drove in 19 runs.
CAM opens the season June 15th at Woodbine.
