(Johnston) Iowa Public Health Deputy Director Sarah Reisetter speaking at Monday’s daily briefing advises Iowa residents to presume COVID-19 is present everywhere regardless of where you live.
Reisetter says health officials continue to learn more about this virus as time goes on. She says one thing they’ve learned is the virus passes quickly and easily among members of households and long term health care facilities.
“We do presume we have substantial community spread in all of our Iowa communities which is why it’s so important to stay home as much as you can and leave only for essentials,” said Reistetter. “If you must go to the grocery store, send one member of the family, and don’t take the entire family, because if one person picks it up and you all live at home together, it’s highly like the virus will be transmitted within the household unit.”
There are currently 82 counties with one or more positive cases of COVID-19. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported on Sunday that Cass County was the newest county to have a positive case. The person is an adult between the ages of 40 and 61.
