(Red Oak) Two people were hurt when a pickup struck a backhoe east of Red Oak.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at around 3:09 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 34 and 200th Street.
According to the report, a 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup traveling eastbound on Highway 34 rear-ended a Case 580 Backhoe as it prepared to enter the turning lane to go east on 200th Street. The pickup driver, 46-year old Matthew P. Newton of Omaha, stated the backhoe pulled in front of his pickup. The truck collided with the rear of the machine with the left front of the Dakota. Newton and his female passenger were treated at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the backhoe, 65-year old Arthur D. Petersen of Red Oak, was not hurt.
The pickup sustained an estimated $2,500 damage and is a total loss. The backhoe owned by C & J Construction of rural Red Oak didn’t receive any damage.
The accident remains under investigation.
