(Atlantic) Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Bryant Rasmussen discussed Bull Creek erosion control with the Park Board Monday evening.
Rasmussen said he has coordinated with the Street Department to help address some of the high need areas that need to get taken care of while they’re still working with the Army Corps of Engineers for the approval.
Rasmussen said before he moved forward with anything he had conversations with the main guy overseeing the project, he has also had conversations with Dave Sturm of Snyder and Associates. Bull Creek has been a controversial and historically difficult storm water management issue as it is considered a waterway of the U.S. and under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In other news, Rasmussen said they are working with the Chamber to get a walking map out there.
Walking map signage and/or flyers will be placed at kiosks in three locations for now; Schildberg Recreation Area, City Park, and at the Parks and Recreation Office.
The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Board gave Rasmussmen their approval to move forward with finding a campground host for the Schildberg Recreation Area campground. The campground host will be offered free camping, but the position comes with certain responsibilities like making sure campers register properly, making sure rules are followed within the campground, general maintenance of the bathroom, etc. The campground will open in April, but a campground host will not be needed until May.
Rasmussen said they held their first PALS (Friends of the Park) meeting recently and they started brainstorming some programs they can start to offer this summer using volunteers. One program will be held February 29th at 10:00 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation Office at Sunnyside Park. The Atlantic Parks and Recreation challenges you to a game of chess/checkers. Refreshments will be offered. The next Friends of the Park meeting is March 3rd.
