(Greenfield) Earlier this week the Nodaway Valley girls basketball team shook up the Pride of Iowa Conference standings with their win over Mount Ayr. By avenging their only prior conference loss, the Wolverines created a first place tie with the Raiderettes.
Nodaway Valley has one conference game remaining which is against Lenox on Friday. Mount Ayr still opposes Bedford twice. If both win out they’ll share the POI crown, thus a win Friday night against Lenox would allow coach Brian Eisbach’s team to officially make the claim as conference champions. Coach Eisbach says his team showed a lot of grit and poise in avenging their previous setback to Mount Ayr. “That win meant a lot to our players. You could just see it in their eyes. It literately felt like a tournament game. Hats off to their fans and to ours that traveled down. If you take the colors out of the gym you didn’t know where you were. It was that good. It was a big win for our kids.”
Nodaway Valley defeated Lenox 62-22 the first time they met. Maddax DeVault is averaging 17.6 points per game, making her the 3rd highest scoring sophomore in Class 2A. Alyssa Davis, Lexi Shike, and Reagan Weinheimer all average in double figures as well.
KSOM will broadcast Friday’s matchup with Lenox. Pregame starts at 5:50 p.m. Nodaway Valley coach Brian Eisbach:
