(Des Moines) A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for southwest Iowa until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alex Krull with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says snowfall began in western Iowa between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. this morning.
Krull says the northern portion of the state is under a Winter Storm Warning including Crawford and Carroll counties. These areas are forecast to receive 4-to-6 inches of snow and 3-4 inches a little further to the south.
Krull says a portion of northwest Iowa will be under a Blizzard Warning starting at midnight. Meanwhile, Saturday will bring some snow, cold temperatures, and windy conditions.
Krull advises those people with travel plans to check the latest road conditions across the state in the next 24 hours.
