(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley hosts East Union Thursday night for a girl/boy doubleheader that will air on KSOM. Coverage starts at approximately 5:50 p.m. with the girls game tipping off at 6:00.
Nodaway Valley is right in the hunt of the girl’s Pride of Iowa Conference loss. With less than a month to go in the regular season the Wolverines are 9-1 overall. They trail Mount Ayr and Central Decatur by one game in the conference standings. Coach Brian Eisbach identifies some of this team’s strengths. “We have a pretty athletic group of kids that like to play pressure defense. Typically for us defense leads to offense. Fortunately we have several kids that can score. It’s not going to be the same one or two kids every game which we feel is a strong suit for us. It makes us harder to scout.”
Maddax DeVault is the team’s leading scorer at 17 points per game. Three others average in double figures—Alyssa Davis, Reagan Weinheimer, and Lexi Shike. Tonight they’ll oppose an East Union team that is 3-7 on the season.
In the boy’s matchup Nodaway Valley is 6-3 while East Union is 1-8. Nodaway Valley co-head coach James Larson takes a look at the matchup. “They have some tall athletic kids. We are going to have to make sure we box out. One thing we struggle with is a little size. They definitely have that going for them and they put on a press that has been effective against some teams and others are able to beat it, so that’s something we’ll have to to be ready for.”
Clay Hohertz and Toby Bower are the top scorers and rebounds for Nodaway Valley Hohertz averages 17.9 per game and Bower averages 16.8. Each are shooting over 50% from the field.
