(Council Bluffs) Two people face charges in Pottawattamie County following a pursuit reaching speeds of over 100-miles per hour.
Iowa State Patrol Lt. Joel Ehlers tells KSOM/KS95 News an Iowa State Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a 2011 Mercedes E350 for traveling 82-miles per hour in a 55-mile per hour zone at around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound I-80 near the five-mile marker. The vehicle stopped and as the trooper approached the car, the driver accelerated and exited at Madison Avenue and re-entered eastbound Interstate 80 reaching speeds of 130-miles per hour. The Mercedes turned east on Highway 6 again traveling at speeds over 100-miles per hour before turning north on 290th Street. The incident ended when the car crashed into a power pole, entered the ditch into a farm field near 298th and Hickory Lane.
Lt. Ehlers said the driver and a male occupant fled on foot. The passenger was apprehended a short time later. The driver was taken into custody a little after 7:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The search involved two police K9’s, a drone, and several agencies on foot and in vehicles.
Both subjects have been uncooperative and law enforcement was still trying to identify the suspects at the time of this release. The Mercedes did come back as stolen out of Kansas City.
