(Woodbine/Avoca) Food Land Pharmacy was cited for failing to comply with rules governing a pharmacy closing.
Food Land Pharmacy in Woodbine is owned by Dina Corbett, who also owned Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca. According to the September 10th Board Action from The Iowa Board of Pharmacy, Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca closed on February 28, 2019. When the pharmacy closed, Food Land Pharmacy in Woodbine became the custodian of the prescription records and drug inventory from Avoca. The written notifications to patients did not advise patients that they could contact Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca prior to the closing date to request the transfer of remaining refills to a pharmacy of the patient’s choice. The controlled substances inventory at Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca was performed before the close of business.
During a visit on March 11th, the controlled substances inventory from Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca was not available and the DEA 222 forms to document the transfer of Schedule II controlled substances from Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca to Woodbine were not filled out. Hard copy prescription records and invoices were transferred on February 27th, but the staff were not aware of this until March 11th. Electronic records were not available until March 11. From February 28 through March 11, some patients were unable to fill prescriptions because the records were not available. The pharmacy license certificate and CSA registration certificate from Food Land Pharmacy in Avoca were not returned to the Board within ten days of closing.
Food Land Pharmacy has been cited for failing to comply with the rules governing a pharmacy closing and warned that future violations of the laws and rules governing pharmacies can result in further disciplinary action. Food Land Pharmacy shall pay a civil penalty in the amount of $3,500 within 60-days of Board approval.
