Maple Tree Tap
Sat Mar 7, 2026 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM (CST)
Families are invited to learn about the basics of maple syrup tree tapping at Botna Bend Park during Pottawattamie Conservation’s annual Maple Tree Tap event on Saturday, March 7th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will get to try Botna Bend’s homemade syrup (as supplies last) and learn first-hand how park staff taps trees, collects sap, and brews it into this delicious, sticky treat in the park’s very own Sugar Shack. If temperatures are right and the sap is still flowing, families may also get to taste sap straight from a silver maple tree.
This event is free and open to the public with a $3 per vehicle park entry fee or a Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation annual membership. Botna Bend Park also offers camping, hiking, river access to the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail, and is home to elk and bison herds.
• When: Saturday, March 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., open-house style | We recommend visitors arrive by 1 p.m. to allow enough time to visit all the stations.
