(Elk Horn) Exira-EHK has experienced a safe start to the school year and are continuing to adapt as necessary.
The district is making Wednesday’s their distance learning day. Superintendent Trevor Miller points out it gives teachers a chance to work with remote learners.
“They are checking in and having additional time to spend with our remote learners and also our on-site learners will be getting assignments so it’s a distance learning day for them. That way our remote learners don’t have to zoom in and can spend time with teachers and figure out where they are struggling at.”
Without students in the building it allows the custodial staff a chance do some deep cleaning. Miller admits the district has had to make some adjustments with lunch and transportation. “We weren’t sure exactly how many shuttles we would need to go between buildings. There’s a two person per seat expectation so we had to add a shuttle. We’ve adjusted lunch a little bit with different shifts, because you can only sit every other seat.”
Masks are expected, but not required. Miller says students and staff have been good about it. “If you have social distancing, facial coverings, and hand sanitizer with three prongs you have a good stool. If you’re not doing one of them then it gets a little weaker.”
Miller says for the most part things are going well and students are doing a good job adjusting.
