(Des Moines) Five days after the General Election, a winner has not yet been declared in the race for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District. The Associated Press has not called the race, as 99% of the votes have been reported. Republican incumbent Mariannette Miller-Meeks holds a narrow lead over Democrat Christina Bohannan. As of Sunday, Miller-Meeks has received 50.1% of the votes, while Bohannan has garnered 49.9%. The candidates are separated by fewer than 800 votes. While Miller-Meeks declared victory at her watch party in Riverside on election night, Bohannan has not conceded. Iowa does not have automatic recounts. However, candidates can request that the state pay for a recount if the margin is less than one percent of the total votes cast.
