(Area) Dove hunting season in Iowa will be underway in just over one week.
September 1st is the dove opener and it’ll be the 10th season. Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR says, “People are getting anxious to get out there and do some dove hunting. We have about a week to get scouted out and figure out where we might do some dove hunting. 2011 was the inaugural season in Iowa.”
Hayes describes dove hunting as fast and challenging. “You want to be sure to bring plenty of shells along because if you get in the right location the action can be fast. It’s a little tougher challenge hunting the doves.”
Hunting is centered around food plots. “There are some of them within a fairly short driving distance. Adams County has some at Icaria.” Guthrie County and Shelby County have some along with a few in Union County.”
A full listing can be found on the Iowa DNR website. The season runs September 1st through November 29th. Shooting hours are a half hour before sunrise to sunset. The daily limit is 15.
