(Atlantic) Dry conditions continue to persist in southwest Iowa, particularly around the Atlantic area.
Atlantic, Oakland, Sidney, and Glenwood all received less than 10-inches of rainfall from April 1, to July 5. Atlantic is the driest, with 6.61 inches, well below the 13.32 for this time frame.
Aaron Saeugling, the field Agronomist for Iowa State Extension and Outreach in southwest Iowa, says corn in this area is currently in the “day-to-day” stage.
Saeugling says the corn crop is stressed in many areas of the region.
Soybeans are a different story. This crop reacts differently to hot and dry conditions.
Mt. Ayr is the only area recording above-normal precipitation from April 1 to July 5.
