(Audubon) The Audubon School Board passed a number of items relating to their bond referendum and renovation project at their meeting Tuesday.
Audubon Superintendent Eric Trager said they have finished up all of their paperwork and now they’re ready to shift over to construction mode. Along with that, they will be doing some asbestos abatement this summer.
“Just to hopefully give us a little bit of a jump start next summer on the big renovation project, so we had quotes come in Tuesday afternoon and accepted the low bid on that and that work will start the first of July,” explained Trager.
Trager said since they are getting ready for their big construction project they will be getting rid of some surplus property, so the public can keep an eye out for advertisement on the sale of surplus property this summer.
Voters passed the $7.5 million bond issue in March. The referendum funds the model, repair and improvement of the Middle School and High School building.
In other action, the board approved hiring of Brittney Williams as a 2nd Grade Teacher and the hiring of Andy VanAernam as Assistant FFA Advisor. Trager said this is a new position.
“We’ve got an FFA program with well over 100 students in it and it’s gotten to be too much for one person, so we decided to hire an Assistant Advisor. Andy comes with some experience as an FFA Advisor, so we’re happy to have him on board as well,” said Trager.
