(Greenfield) The Greenfield City Council turned down Simmone Stofer’s request to raise chickens within City limits. Currently, the City doesn’t allow poultry in the City.
Stofer submitted the request last week. The Council researched the idea and received mixed reactions from neighbors. Greenfield City Clerk Rebecca Haase says allowing poultry in the City might open things up for other livestock. “Simmone is very educated on raising chickens, and I think she would do a great job,” said Haase. “But the Council felt allowing poultry in the City would lead to other things.”
Attracting predators, and the possible smell were other concerns. City Councilmembers encouraged Stofer and others who wish to raise poultry within City limits, to purchase their eggs from a local farmer.
