(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says nearly 164,000 Iowans received tests for COVID-19, for a per-capita rate of 1-19. The most extensive testing day occurred on May 30, when the State Hygienic Lab processed 5,223 checks, surpassing the State’s 5,000 tests per day strategy. Governor Reynolds says the State also surpassed 5,000 tests on Monday.
Reynolds said this past week brought an increase of positive cases in Buena Vista County as a test Iowa site opened. Testing occurred on long term care facilities and employees of manufacturing companies. One and four residents now tested in Buena Vista County, and positive cases are trending down.
The State is partnering with the Iowa Emergency Management Association, and county emergency managers statewide to distribute and build six regional PPE stockpiles. Reynolds says the inventories will ensure local and State preparedness for any future events.
The Governor said as part of the State’s ongoing PPE distribution efforts, the State is transitioning to providing a 14-day supply of PPE in support of country requests. The request is previously due to supply shortages of seven-day quantities.
Meanwhile, Governor Reynolds has returned to her State Capitol Office to prepare for this week’s reopening of the State Legislature on Wednesday.
