(Des Moines) Iowa Department of Education Director Ann Lebo announced today that the state had received $71.6 million through the elementary and secondary emergency relief funds. The funds go to help schools address some of the costs incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lebo says school leaders can assess the application today through the consolidated accountability and support application system.
Lebo says 90-percent of the 71.6 million will go directly to school districts, which will use a portion of the funds to provide services to non-public schools in their areas. The remaining funds are for state-level education efforts to address urgent issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
School leaders have until the close of business on Monday, May 11, to complete the application. Districts can expect to receive their allocations on May 13. The spending window for these funds is retroactive, going back to March 13, 2020. The funds must be used by September 30, 2022.
