(Fort Dodge, IA) — Grace Berglund of Glenwood got on the deck with a 6th place finish in the Class 3A girls cross country race on Saturday morning. The senior stayed in the top ten throughout the race and earned some redemption after a 23rd place a year ago — it was the third time in her career she has finished in the top ten. Berglund finished with a time of 18:11.3 and just held off Audrina Jones of Sioux Center at the line.
Junior Ashlyn Rau of Harlan finished in 55th place (20:14.5).
Creston had three runners in the field: Senior Reese Strunk was 49th (20:03.7), 8th grader Harper Wilson was 91st (20:52.8) and Freshman Ruby Carroll 103rd (21:14.1).
Evelyn Moeller of Mount Vernon Lisbon was the winner at 17:07.5 after finishing third a year ago. She led most of the race and kept widening her lead, winning by 31 seconds over Elsie Brenneman of Pella (17:38.6). Natalie Anderson of MOC Floyd Valley was third; Maechen Cowman of Pella 4th; and Aaliyah Causey of Center Point Urbana rounded out the top five.
Pella dominated the team standings with all five scoring runners in the top 11 and finished with 34 points well ahead of Des Moines Christian in 2nd place at 127. Williamsburg also got a spot on the deck in 3rd with 151.
