(Atlantic) Cass County Auditor Dale Sunderman joins Secretary of State Paul Pate and auditors across Iowa in encouraging voters to cast absentee ballots by mail in the upcoming June 2 primary. During the COVID-19 pandemic, voting by mail is the safest option.
Secretary of State Pate is sending absentee ballot request forms to every active registered voter in the state. The forms are being mailed today and should arrive in your mailbox in the very near future. The absentee ballot request forms will include pre-paid postage for returning them to the Cass County Auditor’s office.
Once voters receive their absentee ballot request form in the mail, they should fill out and mail it promptly. Iowans can also download the request form directly from the Iowa Secretary of State website, VoterReady.Iowa.gov. Requests must be received by your county auditor’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22.
This is an election for the partisan parties to elect the candidates to move on to the General Election ballot in November. Therefore, the voter must request either a Republican or a Democratic ballot only. Voters who are currently registered as NO PARTY may vote but must choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot. Those voters who choose to request a party’s ballot different from how they are currently registered will have their voter registration officially changed to that political party.
On the request form, be sure to write in YOUR NAME and DATE OF BIRTH.
For ID NUMBER, complete only one of the lines. Your ID NUMBER is most often your Iowa Driver’s License Number or Non-Operator ID Number. ONLY if you do not a driver’s license number or non-operator number will you need or have a PIN number. Enter your residential address. Only if you want the ballot mailed to a different address will you complete the SHOULD BE MAILED section. Be sure to check either the Democratic or Republican box. And be sure to sign and date the form.
