(Elk Horn) Former Exira-EHK multi-sport star Drew Buckholdt has bounced around in his college career, but has found a sticking spot with the Waldorf Football team.
Buckholdt began at Iowa Western where he played baseball and transferred to Waldorf where he joined the Warrior’s baseball program for one year, but lost the passion for it. “Baseball, I kind of got burned out of it and started not liking the game as much. I found my passion for football again and decided to make that switch. I talked with Coach P (Tom Petersen) about it,” Buckholdt says, “He said I probably should make the switch if I had lost my passion for baseball.”
Buckholdt was 5th on the team in tackles last year with 50 stops. One of his biggest highlights was his lone interception which he returned 68 yards for a touchdown. Now that he’s back into the swing of things on the gridiron he’s looking to keep improving. “My goal is to get better each and every day and be a starter. My biggest goal is to try and be an All-American.”
Waldorf’s recent success in football played a role in Buckholdt exchanging the baseball glove for shoulder pads. The plan for this year is to be conference champs. “We haven’t done that yet. We were four seconds away from achieving that goal this year and we definitely want to avenge that this upcoming year.”
