2019 Spring Sports
Soccer
Riverside’s 12-4 campaign featured an eight match win streak late in the season. They were ousted by eventual state qualifier Greene County by a 2-1 final in the Substate Semifinals. Speed was a big plus for a senior laden offense with Adrian Dillon, Hunter Hodges, and Val Andrusyshyn combining for 43 goals. Not a single player in Class 1A had more assists than Andrusyshyn. Five of Riverside’s wins were shutouts and eight of the victories were by at least three goals.

Track
Val Andrusyshyn starred, especially in the 100 meter dash. He was a conference runner-up in that event by just .001 of a second to eventual state champ Drake Partridge (AHSTW). The next week at the state qualifying meet he topped Partridge in the 100 with a season best time of 11.23. That duo went 1-2 again at state with Andrusyshyn as the runner-up. Andrusyshyn also had the best time on the team in the 110 highs, 200, and 400. He ran a 52.58 in the open 400. Adrian Dillon nearly broke 1:00 in the 400 meter hurdles, Eli Peterson was the team’s top 800 meter run in 2:16, and Ben Schroeder was strong in both the 1600 and 3200.
Golf
Ethan Reicks, Wyatt Hough, and Taten Williams were each in the top 25 of the Western Iowa Conference Meet where Riverside placed 7th. The team won a sectional title by shooting a 365 at Lenox, but was unable to advance to state. Reicks, Hough, Williams, Jace Rose, and Kaiden Goodman all averaged between 45 and 48 strokes per nine holes. Joel Henningsen, Landon Joneson, Dustin Herring, and Jacob Erickson also made varsity contributions.
2019 Summer Sports
Baseball
After playing an all JV schedule in 2018, the Bulldogs return to Varsity play in 2019. They went winless with no seniors on the team. Eight of their 14 varsity players were 8th graders.

2019 Fall Sports
Cross Country
Ben Schroder, Dennis Pilling, and Mason Wichman were all in the top 25 at the State Qualifying Meet at Mount Ayr, but missed out on a top 15 spot needed to move on to the State Meet. Riverside was 5th at the Western Iowa Conference Meet led by Pilling’s 8th place run. Schroder finished 13th in the WIC.
Football
Riverside came up on the short end of a lot of games they were competitive in. In Darrell Frain’s second season as head coach they likely took a step forward as a program even though the record didn’t show it at 2-7. Their wins were over Nodaway Valley (24-6) and SW Valley (45-0). Eddie Vlcek earned All-State honors from the Iowa Print Sports Writer’s Association and a second team selection on the defensive line. Sophomore quarterback Austin Kremkoski was the Class A District 9 Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Riverside broke their single season record for yardage per game and passing yards per game. Brogan Allensworth set a single season receiving yardage record. Kremkoski broke the school’s single season total yardage record.

Wrestling
John Schroder, Jace Rose, Nolan Moore, and Kaiden Hendricks all qualified for the state tournament with Rose placing 4th at 113 pounds.

Basketball
The Bulldogs matched their win total from the previous season with a 6-16 mark. Drake Woods was a 2nd team all-conference pick and Brogan Allensworth also received votes. Those two juniors had to lead the way with the team having only one senior on the roster. One of their most impressive victories was a 45-42 decision over Logan-Magnolia.
