(Oakland) Iowa Central will be the destination for Riverside senior Gracie Bluml to play college softball.
The chance to play at the next level was an opportunity Bluml didn’t want to pass up. “At first I wasn’t really sure about playing any sport in college, but I’ve gone to a few softball camps at DMACC and Buena Vista and my friend who is going to Iowa Central to cheer in the fall was really pushing for me to look into softball there too. I filled out the recruiting form and they e-mailed me to say they were interested and it went from there.”
Bluml felt Iowa Central was a better fit than others that expressed interest such as DMACC and Buena Vista. Once she stepped foot on campus her mind was made up immediately. She’s excited to join a program that’s experienced a lot of wins. “As far as I know they are a pretty successful program. Before their season was cut short they were leading the nation in home runs and had a pretty good record, so I think it will be pretty fun.”
Bluml notes learning how to slap hit prior to her sophomore season helped her high school career take off. Riverside has big goals for the upcoming season including hopes of making the state tournament. Bluml led the 18-10 Lady Dawgs at the plate last season with a .438 average, 31 runs scored and 27 stolen bases.
