(Griswold) Griswold’s Jocelyn Amos has committed to play basketball at Iowa Central.
Despite missing her entire senior season with a knee injury, Amos will still get to live out her dream of playing basketball at the next level. Amos says the recruiting process heated up in early November, but “In late November I actually tore my ACL, so I was discouraged about the whole college thing and didn’t think anyone would really want me anymore. I had talked to a bunch of colleges and I really liked what the coaches at Iowa Central had to say. They were really reassuring about my injury and not worried about it at all. I just thought I would be a really good fit.”
She picked hoops over track. She’s a six time state track qualifier competing in the Long Jump, 400 Meter Hurdles, Shuttle Hurdle, and 4X800. “I think my heart has always been with basketball. I’ve always had more of a passion for basketball. I’ve had more success in track, but in the long run I thought I would enjoy doing basketball more.”
Morningside, Briar Cliff, Hawkeye Community College, Iowa Western, and DMACC were all in the mix, but Iowa Central’s continued interest despite her ACL injury was a big factor. One of the more unique parts of her decision is that she’s yet to physically visit campus, social distancing prevented that. “I’ve done all the virtual tours and I have a friend that visited there a few days before I was going to and he said he absolutely loved it and I just decided to go with it.”
Amos averaged 8.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a junior for a 15 win Griswold team.
