(Griswold) A strong junior class makes up the bulk of the Griswold girls golf team.
The Tigers have several varsity returners from last season. Coach Jason Reynolds admits the full roster isn’t quite set in stone given the fact practices were suspended before they had everyone together. “Kami Howell is our only senior. Then we have a handful of juniors. We have Jenna Reynolds, Mikala Pelzer, Britney Nelson, Shelby Steffens, and I believe there’s two or three others that decide to join the team.”
Jenna Reynolds is a returning state qualifier for Griswold. She led the team last year with a nine hole average of 48.5 and a season low of 43.
Returners are sparse for the Griswold boys golf team. Caleb Oakleaf is the only player that comes back from last year’s varsity group for the Tigers. “We graduated I think four boys last year, so Caleb Oakleaf is only boy and then I think there were two or three others that might join the team, but it’s kind of a rebuilding year for our boys.”
Reynolds says he knows of a few players that have been golfing regularly during the suspension of spring sports. Athletes are allowed to do so on their own, but not in a group setting. He says if they are allowed to resume this year they’ll have a very busy schedule, trying to get in meets that they missed.
