(Harlan) The Harlan girls bring back a few of their varsity golfers from last year and have a couple of freshman that coach Willie Baughman is excited bout.
Barring any other changes, high school golf season could get underway in about three weeks. Cyclone coach Willie Baughman identifies the pieces his team has back. “Haley Manz was the #1, Jocelyn Cheek was in line for #2, and Kayla Powers-she’d be a senior as well.”
A couple of young players could step in nicely. “I have a couple of freshman and I know one for sure that I felt really confident coming in. Her name is Timber Swenson. She’s played a lot on the junior circuit and I see some promising things in her future.”
Coach Baughman says a goal for the team is to get to state. “I’ve had Jocelyn and Haley and Kayla for two to three years and I’ve seen a lot of improvement. They just have to stay positive that we can do these things and see how far we can get if we have a season.”
Haley Manz, Jocelyn Cheek, and Kayla Powers made a balanced top three in Harlan’s lineup last year as they all averaged between 52 and 54 strokes per nine holes.
