(Guthrie Center) Guthrie County citizens spoke loud and clear of their support for a new jail facility when all the votes were tabulated on Tuesday. The $8.7 million bond referendum passed with 80.60 percent of the voters casting yes votes. It needed 60-percent to pass.

The new facility is a 14,000 square foot addition to the courthouse along with improvements to the courthouse parking lot. The addition will provide improved inmate capacity to address classification and segregation requirements. The addition will also improve inmate transportation costs and rehabilitation. Sheriff Arganbright says one of the big things the facility will provide is a much safer environment for the staff and the public…
Sheriff Arganbright is hoping to break ground sometime this year. He thinks this will be a two-year project before is it is complete.
