(Guthrie Center) Early voting is now open for the $8.7 million Guthrie County Jail referendum.
Guthrie County Patrons are voting on a 14,000 square foot addition located adjacent to the existing courthouse. The jail addition provides improved inmate capacity to address classification and segregation requirements, and decrease the county’s liability risk. It would also improve inmate transfer costs, rehabilitation, safety conditions, and overall workflow efficiency. A new courthouse parking lot is also in the plan.
Meanwhile, Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright continues to conduct informational meetings with community members throughout the county.
“The meetings are informative,” said Sheriff Arganbright, “We tell them how it works, what it’s’ going to cost and hopefully answer any other questions they may have.
“The feedback has been positive and people walk away knowing more about the project,” said Arganbright. “We started the meetings on January 7 and we’re halfway through.”
The projected savings are $2.1 million over the next 30-years.
Informational meetings this week will be held at the Bagley Community Center at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Casey Community Center.
