(Red Oak) Sophie Walker scored 17-points to lead Red Oak past Atlantic 56-41 in a girls’ basketball game at Atlantic on Tuesday night.
Both offenses started slowly, but the Tigers cranked it up and rolled out a 12-0 run at the end of the first quarter and led 15-2. The Tigers defense was relentless forcing 14-turnovers. Red Oak led 27-11 at the half, and 49-23 after three quarters. The visitor’s largest lead, (53-26) came in the fourth quarter before both teams cleared their respective benches.
Besides Walkers 17-points, Lexi Johnson scored 13-points, Ellie Rengstorf, 10, Kyndal Kells, 8, Allie West and Chloe DeVries, 3 points each, and Libby Mensen added 2.
Taylor McCreedy and McKenzie Waters led Atlantic with 11-points each, Haley Rasmussen added 10-points, Nellie Grooms and Maycie Waters each chipped in three points apiece, and Corri Pelzer finished the night with 2.
Atlantic, (6-7), travel to Des Moines, North on Thursday. Red Oak, (12-2), hosts Glenwood on Friday.
