(Red Oak) Charles Bechtold will serve as the next engineer in Montgomery County. The Board of Supervisors approved the former Cass County engineer on an interim basis at their meeting on Thursday.
Last week an agreement was approved with Rose Engineering. However, County Auditor Stephanie Burke says the DOT advised the county they cannot have an agreement between a county and a company. It must be an agreement with a county and an individual.
“We entered into an agreement with Charles Bechtold. He is going to start immediately as our county engineer until the position is filled. The services will be at $180 per hour.”
Montgomery County has been without a full-time engineer since April. They’ve had sharing agreements with Cass and Pottawattamie County and those have since expired. “We have had a couple of applicants, but we have not hired anybody, therefore the position is still open.”
In other activity the board approved Donna Robinson as the chair and Mark Peterson as vice-chair.
