(Undated) Farmers continued making progress in the fields last week, with soybean harvest moving ahead of the five-year average while corn harvest remained slightly behind, according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) weekly Crop Progress report released Monday.
According to DTV Senior Analyst Dana Mantini, in major corn-producing states, Illinois was 86% harvested, while Iowa reached 66% completion. Iowa remained 13 percentage points behind its five-year average.
Michigan and Nebraska were also trailing their historical averages, with harvest 43% and 66% complete, respectively, according to DTN Senior Analyst Dana Mantini.
As of November 1, soybean harvest was 88% complete nationwide, 4 percentage points ahead of the five-year average. Corn harvest reached 74% complete, trailing the five-year average by 3 percentage points.
Looking ahead, several rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected to move across the Plains and Midwest this week. The moisture could temporarily slow fieldwork in some areas while providing beneficial rainfall for winter crops and forages, according to DTN Ag Meteorologist John Baranick.
