Three Injured After Pickup Rear-Ends Horse and Buggy in Ringgold County

By Tom Robinson Nov 2, 2026 | 4:12 PM

(Ringgold County) Three people suffered injuries when a pickup rear-ended a horse and buggy in Ringgold County.

The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 10:00 a.m. Monday on Highway J55 and P68. Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Enos Swartzentruber, 16-year-old Jonathan Swartzentruber, and 15-year-old Jacob Swartzentruber, all of Lamoni.

According to the report, a westbound 2017 Ford F250 pickup driven by 50-year-old Beau Ebersole, of Kellerton, Iowa, struck the rear of the non-motorized buggy carrying the Swartzentrubers, forcing the horse and buggy into the ditch.

A ground ambulance transported the victims to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, and Decatur County Hospital.
