(Des Moines) Southwest Iowa is under a marginal risk for severe weather today, with thunderstorms possible from this afternoon into tonight.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines says light showers will move northeast across the state at times this morning, with the chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms increasing by mid-afternoon and continuing into tonight.
The greatest concern will be this evening and overnight, when there is a very low chance of a few brief tornadoes, primarily across southern and possibly central Iowa. However, forecasters emphasize that most areas will not experience severe weather.
In addition to the rain and storm chances, conditions will be breezy and mild today.
Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for stronger storms on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to gradually cool through the week, with additional chances for isolated to scattered showers before drier conditions return by Friday.
