(Atlantic) Atlantic Cross Country runner Mason Betts finished 16th out of 135 runners in the Class 3A Boys State Cross-Country Meet on Saturday morning at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. For his performance, Betts is this week’s KS95.7 Armour Insurance Trojan Athlete of the Week.
Betts shared his thoughts following Saturday’s race.
In his second year of cross country, Betts improved from 39th place at last year’s state meet to 16th this season. The Atlantic junior missed a state medal by just 1.2 seconds, finishing one place shy of earning a medal.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason praised Betts’ effort, which included a season-best time of 16 minutes, 20.20 seconds.
Betts wraps up his season with a 16th-place finish at the Class 3A State Meet and a Hawkeye 10 Conference individual championship.
