(Greenfield, IA) — Nodaway Valley’s Junior Cross Country runner Gabe Winkelmann won two meets last week and led his team to a district championship and qualified for this Friday’s 1A State Meet. For that, Winkelmann is the GG Harris Farm Bureau KSOM Athlete of the Week.
Last Monday, Winkelmann won the re-scheduled Ron Landphair Invitational in Mount Ayr with a time of 17:20.15, 30 seconds ahead of 2nd place. Then on Thursday, Winkelmann was District Champ at 17:10.08 and won by 19 seconds. He led the Wolverines to a first place district finish and a return trip to the state meet in Fort Dodge.
Winkelmann’s best time is 16:44 and he hopes to break that this Friday at state — he says this season has a been a blast
The Wolverines also have Seniors Paul Kading, Luke Kading, and Haden Colton plus Juniors Josh Nelson, Jack Berg and Winkelmann plus Sophomore Everett Ehler
Winkelmann wants to pursue running in college and still has another year to chase down the school record of 16:11 held by his coach Josh Baudler. In the meantime, he loves continuing the strong tradition of cross country at Nodaway Valley
