(Montgomery Co.) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is warning local businesses and residents to be on the lookout for fake $100 bills that have recently been found in the area.
The Sheriff’s Office says two different individuals recently turned in counterfeit-looking $100 bills they found on the street. The bills are marked as “Motion Picture” currency and are not legal tender.
Authorities are encouraging local merchants to carefully inspect currency before accepting it as payment. The Sheriff’s Office noted that someone who finds one of the bills may not realize it is fake and could unknowingly attempt to use it.
Members of the public are also being reminded to carefully examine any money they find on the ground before attempting to use it, as it could be fake or novelty currency.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office thanked the individuals who turned in the bills and helped bring awareness to the situation.
