(Polk County) Emergency personnel searched the Des Moines River in Polk County on Sunday evening following a report of a boater who went overboard and did not resurface.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with fire personnel from the Des Moines Fire Department’s wet unit, Saylorville Township Fire Department, and Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District, responded to the Des Moines River near NW Morningstar Drive and NW 45th Place.
Emergency personnel immediately began searching the area, and deputies deployed a drone to assist with the search. Despite the efforts, the boater has not been located.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., search operations were paused for the evening due to darkness and the safety of first responders. Search efforts will resume during daylight hours when conditions allow.
The identity of the boater is not being released at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
