(Shenandoah) Atlantic and Shenandoah got their first taste of competition Friday night, meeting in a football scrimmage at Shenandoah. No official score was kept during the scrimmage.
Despite having no official score, the Mustangs held the advantage in the first half of the varsity contest. Two of their touchdowns came on a long run on the opening play and another touchdown on a pick-six deep in their own territory. Atlantic’s junior varsity team held the advantage in the second half, scoring on a pass from Clayton Kelley to Skylar Burcham.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says Shenandoah did some good things.
The scrimmage gives the coaching staff and players a chance to see what they need to work on and go through some of the organizational parts of the game ahead of the official opener.
The Trojans have a lot of new players in the lineup this season after losing a large senior class last year. The defensive line will be stacked with all new faces, along with the defensive backfield.
Despite not reaching the end zone, the Trojans did move the football on offense.
The Trojans open up on the road in a non-district game at Glenwood on August 28. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M., and live-streamed on Westerniowatoday.com TV (KS95). The pregame show starts at 6:00 p.m., and the kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
