(Greenfield) Adair County Elections Commissioner Nathan Reed is reminding prospective candidates that the deadline to file nomination papers for the Ag Extension Board, Hospital Trustees, Soil and Water Conservation Board, vacant Auditor position, and vacant Attorney position is Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The Auditor’s Office will remain open until 5:00 p.m.
Nomination paperwork is available from the Adair County Auditor’s Office at the Adair County Courthouse. Forms may also be printed from the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at https://sos.iowa.gov/voters/candidates. Completed paperwork must be filed with the Adair County Auditor’s Office.
Voters may begin filing absentee ballot request forms with the Adair County Auditor’s Office on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The deadline to formally object to a candidate’s filed paperwork is Wednesday, September 2, at 4:30 p.m.
The deadline to submit a satellite voting petition is Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Petitions must be submitted to the Adair County Auditor’s Office, which will be open until 5:00 p.m.
The first day the Adair County Auditor’s Office may mail requested absentee ballots is Wednesday, October 14, 2026. That is also the first day for in-person absentee voting at the Auditor’s Office.
The deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot and to pre-register to vote is Monday, October 19, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Mailed voter registration forms postmarked on or before that date will be considered on time. The Auditor’s Office will be open until 5:00 p.m.
The deadline to submit a formal challenge to the qualifications of an absentee voter is Friday, October 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. The office will be open until 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the Auditor’s Office will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for absentee voting and other office business, including passports.
Monday, November 2, 2026, is the last day to vote in person absentee at the Adair County Auditor’s Office.
A list of candidates who have filed, along with remaining important dates and the official notice of election, will be released at a later date.
