(Council Bluffs) Council Bluffs Police safely resolved a mental health crisis Thursday morning following a two-hour incident in the 100 block of West Broadway.
According to the Council Bluffs Police Department, officers were dispatched at 10:59 a.m. on August 20 to an apartment in the 100 block of West Broadway Street to assist a maintenance crew with an issue inside an apartment.
When officers arrived, they encountered an individual who was experiencing an active mental health crisis. Police said the individual posed a risk to himself and responding officers, prompting officers to establish a perimeter and call Crisis Negotiators to the scene.
After approximately two hours of communication, the individual was safely detained and transported to a hospital for mental health treatment.
The 100 block of West Broadway Street was closed for the duration of the incident. Police thanked the public for its patience while officers worked to safely resolve the situation.
