Officer Shooting Suspect Mark Lee Jackson Found In Muscatine
(Muscatine, IA) — The man accused of shooting a Muscatine police officer on Friday has been found. Police say 59-year-old Mark Lee Jackson was taken into custody without incident around 7:30 Monday night in Muscatine. On Friday evening, police say they were attempting to take Jackson into custody on outstanding warrants when he led police on a chase, crashed his car and then shot an officer during a foot pursuit. The injured officer is expected to make a full recovery.
Measles Outbreak Confirmed In Southern Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) — State and local health agencies are looking into a measles outbreak in Southern Iowa with possible contacts in the Des Moines metro area. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says, as of Sunday, 12 confirmed cases of measles have been identified with evidence of person-to-person spread. The state says people with measles went to a number of locations in Des Moines, West Des Moines, Clive and Bloomfield on July 28th and 30th and August 9th. Iowa HHS says health agencies are working closely with affected families and community leaders to identify illnesses, share information and ensure access to vaccination.
Indianola Police Department Suspends Use of License Plate Reader Technology
(Indianola, IA) — The Indianola Police Department is suspending its use of automated license plate reader technology. The city says its eight automated license plate reader cameras are deactivated as of Monday. The cameras are no longer collecting data and access to data by outside agencies has been disabled. The city said the suspension allows time for the Indianola Police Department to follow the 2027 session of the Iowa Legislature, which is expected to take up the question of license plate reader technology and its use across the stateDay 4 Attendance At Iowa State Fair Sets New Record
(Des Moines, IA) — After a slow start to this year’s Iowa State Fair, attendance numbers Sunday set a new record. More than 123-thousand people visited the fair on Sunday, a new record for day four of the fair. Included in Sunday’s record-breaking attendance was the sold-out crowd at Lainey Wilson’s performance in the grandstand, which saw the highest attendance at any grandstand concert since its 2018 renovation. Both opening day and day two of this year’s fair saw about five thousand fewer people than in 2025.
Winnebago Industries Lays Off 27 Forest City Workers
(Forest City, IA) — Almost 30 employees at the Winnebago RV plant in Forest City will be laid off as the company consolidates its manufacturing operations. A company news release says it’s also shifting its B-Van motorhome production from Lake Mills to its main facility in Forest City, while closing its Towable RV campuses in Lake Mills and in Middlebury, Indiana. The 27 layoffs will be effective November 30th.
