(Atlantic) Todd Schuler, of Atlantic, walked his Chester/Hampshire boar, “Zoomer,” into the ring at the Iowa State Fair, tipped the scales at 1,246 pounds, and took the top prize in the 2026 Iowa State Fair Big Boar Contest.
Schuler tells KSOM/KS95 News that he entered “Zoomer” into the contest one year ago and placed third, missing the title by eight pounds. Schuler, who has raised pigs for over 60 years, says this year he fed him flaked corn soaked in water, along with one dozen eggs.
Schuler says the competitors check in at around 10:00 a.m., state fair officials pen the boars, and at one o’clock they bring a large cattle scale and try to start with the smallest and work up to the biggest. Schuler says they hit it right this year.
Zoomer will be displayed at the west end of the Swine Barn at the Fairgrounds until six o’clock on August 23.
